New treatments for Sleep Apnea and Snoring

What's new for the treatment of sleep apnea and snoring? The focus for sleep medicine specialists has been on easy outpatient office procedures that have been proven to reduce sleep apnea and snoring. There have been great advances on procedures to open the nasal airway with balloon sinuplasty and procedures for the soft palate such as injection snoreplasty and pillar implants. Now there is a proven therapy to help patients who still snore despite these treatments. This is usually because the back of their tongue falls back to block their airway. Somnoplasty radio frequency treatment can help prevent this blockage, open your airway, and reduce snoring and apnea. It is an easy office procedure that takes about 15 minutes with light sedation. Six treatments over a few months can finally relieve your apnea and snoring and bring some peace to the bedroom. Daniel Slaughter, MD
